slow & steady

I’ve been back at the drawing table! Lately, I’ve been working on a new project, and though I’ve been working at an exhausting pace (. . .or maybe doing too much in April. . .), I am loving it so, so much.

For some reason, I got it in my head to compare art from this new project with some art from 10 years ago.

(. . .“for some reason” URGH don’t be modest!!! it’s because I’m proud of myself LOL)

My favorite thing when I do this is seeing what’s changed & what’s stayed the same. The first pic is from balderdash!, my first big project and a big part of what got me anywhere on social media back then. But once I stopped it around 2018, I really worked hard to change my style.

There’s a lot of reasons why, but I suppose it all boils down to being unsatisfied & wanting to push myself. All kinds of personal & professional factors made me feel unhappy with myself – and that, in turn, highlighted what I actually wanted from my art.

2024

So obviously, a huge shift in style – one’s painted, simpler, softer, while the other is inkier and more detailed. But look at what’s still there!! In both I can see my love for an elegant bust – a pretty neck and collarbone! The best! Moles, flowing hair, cocked eyebrows!! And those little accents – hair strands in lighter colors, blush lines, and the tiny white dots on the balderdash! piece and the retro design accents around [NEW CHARACTER]. GOD! I love drawing pretty people! LOL

I’m really proud of my growth here, especially since these are both from my time as a working adult! Makes me feel like a meme ReacttotheK made of my favorite kpop producer, Adrian McKinnon:

Just. Do whatever you want!!!!!!!

Cheers!
